CygnaCom Solutions to Offer Government Agencies Enhanced Certification and Accreditation Services

CygnaCom to Make Expertise in the DITSCAP/DIACAP, DCID 6/3 and NIACAP Processes Available to Help Assist Federal Agencies with FISMA Compliance.

McLean, VA - CygnaCom Solutions today announced a new service to help civilian and defense-related agencies with Certification and Accreditation (C&A) processes. As government networks and information technologies become more vulnerable to system attacks and failures, organizations are working to strengthen the safety of their networks by adopting certain standards criteria.

Under the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), federal agencies are required to develop, document, and implement agency-wide programs to provide security for their information systems that support their operations and digital assets. As part of this, agency information systems must receive appropriate security accreditation by agency officials who in turn are not only responsible for the security of the system, but also accountable for any adverse impacts to the agency if a breach of security occurs. CygnaCom's C&A services will help to validate agency security assurance levels against applicable standards.

Earlier this month, House Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis (R-VA) unveiled the Committee's annual security report card for federal agencies. Collectively, federal agencies were given a D-plus. For the first time, the primary measures of evaluation rated agency chief information officers on the quality and quantity of completed Certification and Accreditation procedures.

The results illustrate the complexity of existing processes, as well as the difficulty in managing a large federal agency's IT infrastructure. In response, CygnaCom recently developed a service using the company's expertise in this area to assist agencies in completing Certification and Accreditation processes in a timely and effective manner.

CygnaCom's services provide guidance for the most widely used C&A processes, including the DoD Information Technology Security Certification and Accreditation Process (DITSCAP), soon to be superceded by the DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP), the Director of Central Intelligence Directive (DCID 6/3), as well as the National Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (NIACAP), and other related processes.

"As our economic, government, military and intelligence networks expand, critical system failures are becoming an unfortunate reality," stated Peter Bello, President of CygnaCom Solutions. "As a result, a growing number of organizations are now required to satisfy certain criteria for securing their information, including Certification and Accreditation procedures and FISMA compliance. Given the difficulty in adopting these processes, CygnaCom has the experience to help agencies manage and understand them. As greater emphasis is placed on the quality and quantity of Certification and Accreditation procedures, CygnaCom's portfolio of services is now of increasing importance to federal agencies and those responsible for reviewing their IT security readiness."
