The following is the official Cryptographic Equipment Assessment Laboratory (CEAL) response to the numerous articles regarding Microsoft and the FIPS 140-1 evaluation.
McLean, VA - February 11, 1999 - "The story appearing in the various articles and publications regarding the Microsoft DSS CSP evaluation is absolutely false. Microsoft has successfully completed algorithm conformance testing (DSS, SHA-1, and DES). We are now validating the product for other areas of FIPS 140-1 conformance testing. We have not found any show stoppers in their product so far."
It is the CEALs policy not to release information regarding any product under a FIPS 140-1 evaluation. However, this statement was issued (with permission from Microsoft) to dispel rumors regarding the Microsoft product.
