SWAP is a complete solution for easily managed, secure access control to web resources. SWAP is based on public key cryptography, and makes use of signed attribute certificates to store access rights granted to users.
SWAP consists of four components. The access manager system performs the granting and revocation of access rights, and creates the signed attribute certificates, which are stored in an LDAP directory. Requests to the web server are controlled via a secure sockets layer (SSL) version 3 authenticated connection. The plugin software can be called by each web resource to control access based on the rights granted in the authenticated user’s attribute certificate. The distributed nature of SWAP allows for simplified management without compromising security.
