Cryptographic Equipment
Assessment Laboratory (CEAL)
Cryptographic Algorithm Testing
The CEAL currently performs conformance testing to the following standards:
Data Encryption Standard (DES) (FIPS PUB 46-3) (For legacy systems only)
Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) (FIPS PUB 46-3)
Secure Hash Standard (SHS) (FIPS PUB 180-1)
Digital Signature Standard (DSS) (FIPS PUB 186-2)
Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) (FIPS PUB 197)
Escrowed Encryption Standard (EES) (FIPS PUB 185)
DES Modes of Operation (FIPS PUB 81)
SKIPJACK ("SKIPJACK" (S), R21-TECH-044-91)
CEAL procedures for algorithm conformance testing allow vendors to run test suites themselves, with certain controls provided by the CEAL. The vendor then provides test results to the CEAL for validation. If tests are successfully passed, the CEAL gives the vendor the option of submitting results and a validation letter to NIST and CSE for certification. Under certain conditions, the CEAL will also contract to perform algorithm conformance testing on the behalf of vendors.
